Spring doubles open – update and gallery link

A hot, sunny day welcomed a full house of teams to Handcross Doubles and early arrivals were able to use the swimming pool in lane1 !!

One team did not turn up because of the weather but the swimming pool soon dried out during the morning as the rain eased.

Six leagues of four were drawn. Cullum Lombard and David Franco had an easy morning and fannied all other teams in their league including Phil Bradshaw and Steve Daykin, Liam and Anthony Kidd, Justin Ellis and Simon Brooks, and Christine Peat and Frank Charlesworth.  All made the Gold.

In the afternoon Callum and David carried on where they had left off in the morning with another fanny, but in the next game dropped their first points to the Kidds, but only five. They then went into the final to play Phil and Steve and overcame them as well.

Further down the field, three Handcross teams were drawn together in one league. Brenda and Sue took on Martin and Nigel and stormed into a lead of 11 -1 with some great shooting and pointing, but somehow they let it slip and lost 13-12.

In the afternoon Martin and Nigel reached the Silver final to play Graham Elcome and Ricky Watkinson. The game went to the wire with the local team winning once again 13-12.

Mike Greenaway and Mike Stanton reached the Silver Consolage final losing out to David’s children Marc and Axel.

Meanwhile the Bronze competitions ended up being a Handcross domination. In the Bronze final Bill Mackrell and Stuart Cursley beat Tony Capon and Richard Clapham whilst in the consolage Carol Parker and Celia Rawlings beat our newest members, Kim Davis and Mary Gray.

Thanks to everyone who came and all those who helped.

Our next event is our Summer Doubles on 6th August.
