The 2020 Singles Final was played between Peter Kidd and Bill Mackrell with Peter defending his Club Champion title. Report by Bill Mackrell -
The Handcross 2020 singles final was played on a sunny Sunday 18th October.
The final saw the defending champion and group A winner Peter Kidd take on group A runner up Bill Mackrell. After his impressive performance in the group stages winning all 6 matches while only dropping 1 game, followed by a 2-0 semi-final win against the group B runner up Peter was the overwhelming favourite to retain his title. Bill had a less impressive journey to the final losing 5 games in the group stages winning 4 matches followed by a surprise 2-1 semi-final victory against the group B winner. With the Sunday club session over club members keeping a safe covid distance gathered around the piste to chear on the finalists.
The match started about 10:50 with Bill talking and only realised when someone shouted come on that the centre piste was ready for battle.
Bill won the toss and pointed about 40 cm behind the coche, Peter pointed to hold, Bill shot, Peter pointed, Bill shot, Peter shot and had a 3 point lead. Second end Peter pointed Bill shot Peter pointed Bill shot and missed, Bill pointed Peter Shot to go 5-0 up. The game was being played at a fast pace which suited both players.
The game continued mostly shooting, Bill managed to win the 3rd and 5th end with both players having chances and although both players were shooting with a high success rate Peter's careuxing was to tell with Peter winning the first game.
The second game was played at the same blistering pace and, as with the first game, more shooting than pointing.
Peter opened with a good point which Bill removed, Peter pointed Bill removed, Peter pointed Bill missed 1 point to Peter. Peter pointed but short Bill pointed coche high Peter shot and careuxed Bill shot but Peter's first short point was still holding Bill pointed Peter shot and careuxed and Bill's boule also took his other to give Peter all 3 points.
Bill's shooting improved managing to achieve some good caraeuxes and also removing boule and leaving his on. Game on with Bill winning a few ends to bring the score to 8-6.

There was very little pointing from this stage on with both players shooting anything within 40cm of the coche, Peter sometimes shooting boule further away. After a few more ends going to both players Peter was on 12 points only, wanting one more point for another title.
Peter pointed within about 10 cm Bill pointed a good 2nd before shooting and missing. The next shot also missed, giving Peter a well deserved Win.
Peter's demolition of Bill was completed in less than an hour.
David presented Peter with the winners' shield, noting that only one person had taken a game from Peter and with true Chairman's modesty having to admit it was him.
Due to Covid restrictions the normal post match food and drink could not go ahead.
