SCPA Presentation Evening
On arrival at the venue we were presented with a nice bucks fizz and it was good to see that the usual suspects that play in our region had 'scrubbed up' nicely. It was nice to see Tony and Hilary and there was time to chat, but what about Petanque of course!
All guests had been allocated a table to sit at, which is where I joined Gerard and we listened to the introductions from the Vice President who told us what to expect during the evening. There would be food, a raffle, presentations and a disco to dance to until 12 o/clock. The trophy table was very impressive with lots of polished silver on show, and ours was in there somewhere?
The dinner was very good, and with seconds on both courses. We had the choice of Steak and Mushroom Pie with roast spuds or a Chicken Curry and Rice, they also had a vegetarian menu. For pudding there was Apple Crumble, Profiteroles or Fruit Salad.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and after dining we settled down for the presentation. The region's sponsors shared the presenting of trophies with our new Regional President Steve Lombard. Individuals, doubles, triples and clubs were presented with their trophies. We waited for the trophy for winning division 3 east in the 6 a side competition and were presented with a shield and a small trophy which the club could keep. Unfortunately, we could not keep the shield, but you can see the photo on the SCPA website.
We both had an enjoyable evening. It was very relaxed and informal. It would have been lovely if more of our club members would have attended and maybe we could have had a whole table to ourselves? Now we can look forward to playing in the 2nd division East, doing our best for promotion for the following year. Just to say that ‘our Bill’ did a magnificent job as captain for his second year and now Justin takes the reins for 2020.
