Club Doubles Championships 2023

This year's Club Championships, organised by Liam Kidd, was held on Sunday 1st October.

16 club members entered and teams were drawn into two groups of 4 with the winners of each group to play in the final.

It was a bright day and the sun shone over the players as the competition began in earnest following a random draw.

The eventual winners of the two groups were Lesley Booth playing with Liam Kidd and Maria Cocozza and Tony Kidd.

The crowds gathered as the final began with considerable banter between father and son.

However, as the match progressed, Tony and Maria began to move ahead from their contestants to the last end which they finally won.

Nigel arrived in time to congratulate and present the Club Rose Bowl to Maria and Tony. Maria was delighted to receive this, as was Tony. Maria was particularly pleased as she said she had never won anything before! She would look after the trophy until it was awarded to the 2024 winners.

Lesley and Liam were congratulated on becoming runners-ups. Lesley had done particularly well as she is one of our newer members and has progressed enormously since joining the Club.

Well done to both finalists and runner-ups and to all those who played in this most enjoyable event.
